- Every child deserves a safe place to sleep. And, yet, the number of unhoused families in Central Texas is increasing.
- • In the Austin Independent School District, there are approximately 2500 unhoused kids.
- • These kids are part of over 1100 AISD families living in a car or doubling up with relatives, often leading to frequent moves.
- • Stats show that children living unhoused are vastly more likely to become unhoused as an adult.
- • And children living in their own homes have better grades, better graduation rates, and are generally healthier.
- BUT $1,200 can help a family find stable housing; that might pay for a deposit, the first month’s rent, a lapsed utility bill, or more.
